The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Regulations 2016 will come into force on 1 April 2016.
The Regulations introduce the new concept of a ‘National Living Wage’, which has been widely reported in the press. The National Living Wage rate will be £7.20 an hour for workers aged 25 and over.
The Regulations also enable the penalty against employers who fail to pay the National Minimum Wage to be increased from 100% to 200% of the unpaid wages due to the relevant worker.
