Juliet is an experienced UK employment lawyer, with a particular interest in international employment law and global mobility.

Juliet’s UK work includes advice on hiring, discipline and dismissal, employment contracts and policies, corporate transactions, TUPE, financial services-related issues, dispute resolution, whistleblowing, family-related laws and a wide range of discrimination issues.

Her international work includes advising businesses new to the UK and advice on cross-border relocation, international commuter arrangements, international assignment and mobility policy documents, cross-border employment dispute resolution, mobility training and specialist advice on a broad range of Brexit-related mobility issues.

Juliet is author of the leading textbook Drafting Employment Documents for Expatriates.

Juliet is a former Chair of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA) and the current Board Member for England & Wales at the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA).

Expertise

Juliet advises on UK and cross-border restructurings, TUPE transfers and collective redundancies, supporting clients on acquisitions, insolvencies and major reorganisations, including union consultations and large-scale international employment transitions.

Experience

  • Advised a business on managing people in the context of a multi-site UK retail insolvency with a need to keep selling stock.
  • Supported a utility company on site over months on internal restructuring, redundancies and role changes.
  • Advised a US business on European restructuring and benefit changes following a cross-border acquisition.
  • Advised union representatives on the employment law implications of changes to incentive arrangements.
  • Advised a manufacturing business on collective bargaining arrangements.

Juliet advises on employment documentation, including workplace policies restrictive employment contracts, and directors’ service agreements to support recruitment, retention, international mobility, and cross-border compliance for multinational businesses.

Experience

  • Documented cross-border mobility policies for a financial services multinational’s expatriate employees.
  • Documented international commuting arrangements and complex benefit arrangements to allow a UK PLC to recruit a main board director with family based overseas.

Juliet advises on compliance with UK employment laws, including working time and minimum wage, and supports clients through whistleblowing investigations, public enquiries, and sensitive regulatory issues involving directors and employees.

Experience

  • Advised various directors and public figures in relation to the employment law aspects of public enquiries.
  • Advised and settled a cross-border whistleblowing claim for a major international leisure business.

Juliet advises on discrimination and equality, guiding employers through policy design and incentive arrangements to ensure compliance with evolving legislation, particularly on age discrimination and tax-related employment issues.

Experience

  • Advised a financial services business on changes to complex incentive arrangements to reflect developing age discrimination laws and tax changes.
