John has extensive experience in real estate and property law. He acts primarily for offshore investors and developers on inward UK investment, secured lending, and development-related work for financial industry developers and funders.

John’s expertise includes acquisitions and disposals of freeholds and leaseholds, site assembly, investment purchases, development finance, forward sales, overage arrangements, finance leases, mezzanine lending, joint ventures, and shareholder agreements. He also advises on landlord and tenant matters, including Green Leases and CRC issues, trust loans and administration, company reconstruction and re-domiciliation, SSAP and SIPP property structures, and investment property re-gearing and letting.

John is a member of the Institute of Directors and the Guernsey International Legal Association.

John advises offshore investors and developers on UK commercial property, including acquisitions, disposals, site assembly, development finance, secured lending, joint ventures, corporate support, and landlord and tenant matters.

Experience

  • Advised on corporate lending and equity investment of a group of companies with property interests in Spain.
  • Advised on corporate lending and equity investment for an offshore lender relating to land interests in Southern Africa.
  • Advised on the security based on prime London properties for an offshore fund.
  • Acted on behalf of public sector bodies in relation to the disposal of surplus land for development.
  • Acted for providers of land acquisition and mezzanine finance.
  • Acted for property funds on acquisitions and disposals of industrial estates and other investments.
  • Assisted in the steps required by a Jersey limited partnership to refinance its borrowing in relation to an English commercial property.
