Teresa is a family law specialist advising on all aspects of family law, including financial and child matters. Her work often includes issues of international as well as domestic law. She advises on pre-nuptial, post-nuptial, and cohabitation agreements as protective measures.

Teresa works with families whose wealth includes complex trust structures and corporate entities, and manages cases through the courts or by negotiation, as appropriate.

Teresa also acts in claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 and in contested probate matters. She is a trained Mediator (family, civil and commercial), a Collaborative Lawyer, and a Tavistock-trained psychodynamic psychotherapist specialising in couples and relationship work.

She is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, a worldwide association of practising lawyers who are recognised by their peers as the most experienced and skilled family law specialists in their jurisdictions.

Teresa has an impressive team of external experts to assist including IFAs, investment advisers, tax and pension experts, and schooling and therapists/counsellors.

Expertise

Teresa advises on complex family law matters involving high-value financial claims, cross-border assets, and intricate business or trust structures. Her expertise includes pre-nuptial agreements, Schedule 1 Children Act claims, and collaborative law solutions for international and high-net-worth clients.

Experience

  • Advised on a high-value financial claim within divorce proceedings involving assets in the UK, Russia, and Cyprus.
  • Advised a father in connection with a claim by his ex-partner under Schedule 1 of the Children Act for additional London housing, school fees, significant travel, and holidays in relation to his young daughter.
  • Prepared and advised on a pre-nuptial agreement for a cross-jurisdictional family whose assets included companies, trusts, and a significant interest in a football club.
  • Used the collaborative law process to resolve complex financial claims involving intricate family company structures, valuations of property in the UK and abroad, and ongoing maintenance for the client based on a novel bonus system linked to the family company’s performance, as well as the paying party’s remuneration.

Teresa advises on family mediation, helping clients resolve financial, inheritance, and child arrangement disputes. Her experience includes mediations involving complex pensions, international family dynamics, and Inheritance Act claims between spouses and adult children.

Experience

  • Successfully mediated a dispute involving a couple close to retirement with complex pension arrangements.
  • Mediated in connection with child arrangements for a family with international connections involving significant travel and educational arrangements for the children.
  • Mediated a claim under the Inheritance Act 1975 between a widow and adult stepchildren in relation to their father’s estate.

Teresa advises on complex children disputes involving allegations of harm, parental alienation, and international relocation. Her experience includes high-conflict cases requiring fact-finding hearings, safeguarding measures, and coordination with social services and child protection professionals.

Experience

  • Advised on a complex children dispute involving threats of parental alienation, allegations of harm to the child and severing all contact with the non-custodial parent.
  • Represented a parent on an application to permanently remove the children to another European and non-Hague Jurisdiction.
  • Advised in connection with a contested child dispute involving a 6-day fact-finding hearing, 3 independent social workers, therapists, and family consultant. Safeguards were needed to prevent the children being taken out of the jurisdiction.
  • Advised a family in connection with allegations of abuse leading to the involvement of social services, a child in need and child protection plan being instituted.
