Peter is a commercial property partner specialising in renewable energy with a particular focus on solar PV, onshore wind, battery storage, electric vehicle charging, anaerobic digestion, and synchronous condensor projects. He advises landowners,  developers and funders across the full project lifecycle, from heads of terms and site acquisition through to financing, development and disposal. 

His practice spans a wide range of clean energy technologies, and he advises on power purchase agreements, easements and wayleaves, options, leases and agreements for lease. Peter also regularly undertakes property due diligence and supports energy clients on corporate transactions. 

Peter acts for both large-scale developers and private landowners, including farmers and landed estate owners with extensive experience negotiating with energy companies such as EDF and Statkraft. He also supports clients on the deployment of commercial rooftop solar schemes and the development of ground source heatpump networks for housing developments.

Peter combines property law and energy expertise to deliver commercially sustainable energy infrastructure across a range of technologies.

Experience

  • Advises landowners on battery storage projects ranging from 50MW/100MWh up to 250MW/1,500MWh in size. 
  • Advises developers on the leases and power purchase agreements required for both roof-mount and large-scale ground-mount solar projects. 
  • Advises landowners granting options and leases for the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging sites on their land. 
  • Advises landowners on the development of wind turbines, anaerobic digesters, and synchronous condensor projects. 
  • Advises landowners on pipeline and cable easements (at private wire, distribution and transmission levels) as well as direct agreements to support energy projects. 

Peter supports green technology projects across the UK and advises on the property and commercial aspects of solar, wind, battery, EV, and heat network infrastructure, supporting developers and landowners from acquisition through to financing and deployment. 

Experience

  • Acted for landowners granting options and leases for the deployment of EV charging sites on their land ranging from single-charger facilities to 80 charger drive-in sites. 
  • Advises a leading heat pump manufacturer in respect of the deployment of ground source heatpump networks for new and existing housing developments including property due diligence and ground array leases for the provision and supply of heat. 
  • Acted for a landlord in the restructuring, consolidation, letting and refinancing of their 16-acre, 20-commercial unit estate portfolio. 
  • Acted for numerous developers and landowners over many years in respect of the grant of options and leases for ground and roof-mount solar sites ranging in size from 200kW to 75MW together with associated PPAs. 
  • Acted for a series of landowners in respect of cable easements to support one of the UK’s first offshore floating wind projects.  
  • Provides advice to land agents to assist in their negotiation of heads of terms for renewable energy projects.
