Daniel is a technology and data law expert who advises a range of clients from start-ups to multinational organisations on data and technology issues, including advising on GDPR, UK DPA, ePrivacy, artificial intelligence (AI) issues, technology creation, licensing/provision and implementation.

He advises clients in the technology, health, media, conference, travel, education, retail, hospitality and fashion sectors.

Daniel also advises on intellectual property law and complex commercial transactions, such as franchising and outsourcing.

Daniel has extensive experience advising on GDPR, data breach response, ePrivacy compliance, subject access requests, and international data transfer regimes for clients in sectors ranging from aviation to media, finance, and consumer tech.

  • Provided data protection advice to Tessian, a leading provider of online security solutions.
  • Advised a financial data services company on its contractual arrangements and data protection obligations.
  • Advised Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays on GDPR implementation and compliance activities.
  • Provided a range of data protection and commercial technology advice to Sony Pictures in relation to on-set shoots and online services.
  • Provided data and commercial advice to a range of theatre organisations and venues, such as Punchdrunk and the Royal National Theatre.
  • Advised on the data protection and ePrivacy aspects of specialist consumer secured lending.
  • Advised on technology and data law for an equine sports charity.

Daniel brings deep transactional experience across sectors, advising on outsourcing arrangements, strategic alliances, JVs, platform integrations and multilateral deals, often involving multiple jurisdictions, multi-year terms, or regulatory overlay.

  • Advised Delta on the terms of a technology licensing deal.
  • Advised Virgin Group Loyalty Company on the terms of its core long-term commercial relationship with Virgin Atlantic Airways.
  • Advised a global social media company on the terms of its technology distribution contracts with mobile operators.
  • Advised Expedia in relation to a range of complex commercial platform and service agreements.
  • Advised the Virgin Group in relation to various joint venture and collaboration agreements.
  • Negotiated many R&D collaboration agreements for Vodafone.
  • Key legal advisor for Telenor on a commercial joint venture in south-east Asia.
  • Advised Diehl Metering, a supplier of smart power and water meters, on its contractual relationships with utility companies.

Daniel advises eCommerce platforms, fintechs, and SaaS providers on B2B and B2C contractual frameworks, marketplace agreements, payment gateway structuring, and compliance across online transaction environments.

  • Advised a significant payment card provider on a number of customer contracts.

Daniel represents major telecoms and tech operators in structuring handset, platform, and IP-based commercial relationships, including mobile services, embedded tech, and regional product rollouts. He also advises on licensing, platform agreements, outsourcing, SaaS, and multi-jurisdictional technology deployments.

  • Key legal advisor to Vodafone on its negotiations with Apple, Nokia, Samsung, and the other key mobile handset providers.
  • Advised Telenor on the development and implementation of a mobile-based healthcare solution for use in south-east Asia.

Daniel advises hotel groups, airlines, and travel tech platforms on franchising, long-term commercial agreements, technology procurement, and regulatory compliance in the travel and hospitality industries.

Experience

  • Advised The Arterial Group on the terms of their co-working facilities management agreement with Grosvenor Estates.
  • Advised the Tower Hotel Rotterdam on the terms of its franchise agreement with Marriott.
  • Advised on franchising arrangements for various retail operations (KFC, Pret A Manger).
  • Advised a provider of in-person and virtual conferences on its contractual relationships with its sponsors and attendees.

Daniel supports media and entertainment clients with content licensing, platform agreements, publishing, and digital rights structuring, including across film, theatre, publishing, and television.

  • Provided a range of commercial and data advice to the major online US publisher O’Reilly.
