Andrew is an experienced Australia-qualified solicitor specialising in all aspects of commercial construction law. He advises funders, developers, landowners, contractors, tenants and professionals on the drafting and negotiation of the full range of construction contracts, such as building contracts, consultant appointments, bonds, guarantees, collateral warranties and associated agreements, both standard form and bespoke.

Andrew advises on construction projects and developments for a variety of industries such as housing, education, retail, healthcare, hotels and hospitality.

Expertise

Andrew provides expert advice on drafting and negotiating construction and development agreements, JCT/NEC contracts, acquisition and funding of development property, and security instruments for residential and mixed-use housing schemes.

Experience

  • Advised on the construction aspects of the Triptich Bankside development in London encompassing a mix of residential an elderly care facility and some retail for a value of £400 million.
  • Advised on the construction aspects acting for Berkeley DeVeer in the purchase of the UK housebuilder Avant Homes.
  • Advised on the construction aspects for the building of sheltered housing facilities at Oldham, Croydon, and Stanhope in the UK to the value of £100 million each.
  • Advised on the construction aspects of the London Borough of Camden’s Older People Housing Project.
  • Advised on North Tyneside Extra Care and Sheltered Housing Project.
  • Acted for a Guernsey-based fund on a number of housing developments in the UK ranging from 10 units to 200 units.
  • Developed a suite of maintenance contracts for City West Housing Trust for ongoing maintenance works.
  • Drafted and advised on full suites of construction documents for L&Q to use as precedent documents for range of current and future building projects.

Andrew advises on all aspects of construction and development law, including drafting and negotiating building contracts, development agreements, finance documents, warranties, and performance security across a broad range of projects.

Experience

  • Advised on the development of the Beehive Centre at Cambridge, England, for British Land Developments Limited for the value of £180 million.
  • Advised on the construction contract for the redevelopment of the Barcelona Football Club.

Andrew advises on EPC contracts, maintenance agreements, and performance security, supporting energy developments with tailored construction contracts, partnering agreements, and financing arrangements across renewable infrastructure projects.

Experience

  • The construction aspects acting for the purchaser of the world’s largest offshore wind farm in The Netherlands for the value of €1.6 billion.
  • Advised on the construction aspects acting for a lender in relation to an EPC contract for a solar power station.
  • Advised on the construction aspects in relation to an EPC contract for 1,000 solar rooftop installations on a social housing property.
  • Advised on the construction aspects acting for the contractor in relation to two EPC contracts for on and offshore HVDC cable systems for the values of £1.2 billion and £2 billion.
  • The construction aspects acting for the contractor in relation to an EPC contract for a waste management facility.
  • Acted for and advised a major UK contractor on the construction contracts and ancillary construction documents for two nuclear power stations.
  • Advised on the due diligence for the acquisition of a pipeline and an Australian power station for the value of £1.2 billion.

Andrew advises clients in the education sector on professional appointments, partnering agreements, and bespoke construction contracts to support the delivery of new builds and refurbishments for schools and universities.

  • Advised a major UK university on its network replacement programme to deliver a modern, secure, high-speed wired and wireless campus data network for the entire university.
  • Advised on the construction aspects acting for a purchaser of a student accommodation portfolio in excess of £1 billion.
  • Advised on the construction aspects for the building of schools at Ealing and York in the UK to the value of £200 million each.
  • Advised on Swansea University Accommodation Project.
  • Advised on Slough Schools PFI Project.
  • Advised on the construction aspects acting for a purchaser of an international technology park in excess of £100 million.

Andrew supports healthcare infrastructure projects through bespoke construction contracts, collateral warranties, and performance guarantees, with a focus on regulatory compliance, funding structures, and professional appointments across both public and private sectors.

  • Advised on the construction aspects for NHS health facilities at Sheffield, Oldham and Cornwall in the UK to the value of £120 million each.
  • Advised on the construction aspects for hospitals at Ealing, Croydon, and Kent in the UK to the value of £200 million each.
  • Advised on the construction aspects of the development of a foreign healthcare facility in London.

Andrew advises on the acquisition, development, and construction of retail and leisure assets, drafting bespoke building contracts, negotiating partnering agreements, and securing finance and guarantees for commercial builds and fit-outs.

  • Advised on the construction of major London shopping centres, including many retail superstores across the UK.
  • Acted for the developer in the refurbishment of the Stables Market at Camden for the value of £20 million.
  • Acted for Tesco Stores Limited in relation to the development, purchase and letting of a variety of stores across the UK to the value of £100 million.
  • The construction aspects for the refinancing of a retail development in Bond Street, London, to the value of £30 million.

Andrew advises on the acquisition, development, and construction of hospitality and leisure assets, drafting bespoke building contracts, negotiating partnering agreements, and securing finance and guarantees for commercial builds and fit-outs.

Experience

  • Advised on the construction of various entertainment centres and nightclubs across the UK to the value of £30 million.
  • The construction of various entertainment centres and nightclubs across the UK, including the Newcastle and Nottingham Tiger Tiger for Chorion plc to the value of £30 million.
  • Acted on the refurbishment contracts for the Holiday Inn, Gatwick.
  • The construction aspects acting for a company acquiring a portfolio of 57 hotels across the UK to the value of £3.5 billion.
