Jo is a commercial property lawyer with over 20 years of experience advising clients on acquisitions and disposals, acting for both landlord and tenants, and the more specialised areas of real estate finance, social housing, and the care sector.

Within these areas Jo acts for property investors, private firms, registered providers, and investment funds and has vast experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams, leading such teams or working one to one with the client.

Expertise

Jo advises on real estate finance, including lending, refinancing, and development funding for commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects, covering banks, national funds, and complex multi-property transactions.

Experience

  • Acted for a bank in £20m+ lending to a national fund for the acquisition of several leisure sites across the country, in addition to a further refinance of £20m a year later.
  • Acted for an owner of a high-value residential development in a £22m complex multi-lender refinance.
  • Worked on the property aspects of an equity finance deal on behalf of a national gym chain dealing with 200+ properties within the deal.
  • Represented a bank in a £15m development funding for a mixed site for residential care and assisted living.
  • Acted for a bank in the first development of a GP super surgery in the UK to involve a part-NHS loan for such development.

Jo advises both landlords and tenants across both the investment and leisure sectors.

Experience

  • Acted for a national gym chain in the acquisition of over 200 sites.
  • Acted for Gloucester Rugby Club in the taking of a lease of the first internal bespoke training centre at Kingsholm Stadium together with additional hospitality areas.
  • Acted for a client in the sale of a trading concern and leaseback of multiple supermarket sites to Tesco.
  • Acted for a developer in a multi-occupied commercial site with pre-let to Co-op and Dominoes in addition to retail brands.

Jo advises clients in the social housing sector ranging from PLC providers to smaller registered providers as well as third-party investors.

Experience

  • Acted for a PLC in a £90m funding arrangement with the local authority for the provision of assisted and social housing requirements for the authority.
  • Acted for a PLC housing association in the acquisition, lease, and leaseback arrangement with national fund and local authority pension funds.
  • Acted for an investment fund in a joint venture with a registered provider to roll out over 100 residential units.
  • Acted for a PLC as part of a Home Office contract for provision of immigration housing of 1,000 units together with immigration centres.
  • Acted for a registered provider in the acquisition of a facility with NHS funding.

Jo is a commercial property lawyer with over 20 years of experience in assisting healthcare providers in acquiring and disposing of properties and other facilities, while also representing specialised banking terms in this sector.

Experience

  • Advised on the acquisition of a 50-bed care home with additional assisted-living use with finance for a care charity.
  • Advised on the acquisition and development of over 5 super surgery sites around the country with pre-lets to GP practices, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers.
  • Acted on the acquisition of a £10m care facility offering care home and medical facilities including subsequent re-finance and ultimate sale.
  • Advised on the acquisition of numerous sites for development of adult assisted living accommodation with pre-let to housing association and forward funding arrangements.
  • Advised on the sale of multi-surgery sites to investors including several surgeries, pharmacy and additional healthcare providers.
