Suraya has been advising on international asset finance and leasing for over 15 years, particularly within the aviation sector where she has additional insight and expertise gained from having been the in-house counsel for Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi. During this time she advised on a wide range of matters and guided the Treasury and Fleet Planning teams on structured transactions, asset, cross-border, Islamic, unsecured and sustainable financings, and a number of corporate and restructuring projects.
Suraya’s experience also includes working with overseas counsel and civil aviation authorities across key jurisdictions, and advising companies in the aviation sector on a wide range of commercial aviation matters, such as pilot/crew training, catering, airport, fuel/SAF, spare parts, pooling, and technical service agreements.
Suraya advises airlines, banks, lessors, and other financial institutions on a broad spectrum of matters including the financing, purchase and sale of aircraft, engines, helicopters, corporate jets, simulators, and airport transportation.
Suraya advises on aircraft and engine finance, including tax-driven structures, ECA-backed deals, Islamic finance, Jolco/JOLs, pre-delivery financing, and agency roles. Her experience includes prepayments, refinancing, security, and Aviation Authority registrations.

Suraya advises on Islamic and sustainable finance, with experience in Sharia-compliant financings (Ijarah, Murabaha, Wakala, Sukuk) and sustainable loans and loan funding structures linked to sustainability targets and development goals.

Suraya advises on operating, wet and damp leases, novations, end-of-lease returns, and charters. She also handles procurement, catering, training, fuel/SAF, maintenance, pooling, and manufacturer support across the commercial aviation sector.

Suraya was in-house counsel at Etihad Aviation Group, advising Etihad Airways, Etihad Aviation Training, and Etihad Catering on all financing and commercial matters, including corporate projects and equity partner airlines.
