Toby is a commercial lawyer who works with businesses in high tech and regulated sectors, including finance, telecommunications and the growing space and satellite industry. He advises on the drafting and negotiation of commercial, IT, telecommunications and outsourcing contracts.

Toby also assists with the structuring of commercial arrangements and procurement strategies.

Toby advises on commercial contracts, including PSD2 compliance for card issuers, payment card production agreements, commercial strategy for professional services companies, and transactional support for technology and venture capital clients.

  • Advised a card issuer on contracts to achieve PSD2 compliance.
  • Lead adviser to a professional services company on its commercial contracts, standard supply agreements, and procurement strategy.
  • Acted for a venture capital firm in relation to the MBO of a leading price comparison website.
  • Advised a technology company on a series of software engineering resource contracts.
  • Advised a technology platform provider on contracts to provide a Platform as a Service to regulated financial services customers.
  • Led negotiations for a card issuer on an agreement for the production of payment cards.

Toby advises on data protection, including GDPR compliance projects, credit bureau agreements, privacy policies, terms of business, and consumer data-sharing arrangements for financial services and telecoms companies.

Toby advises on space and satellite matters, including satellite manufacture and sale contracts, launch services agreements, on-orbit operations, launch site operator arrangements, and procurement contracts for multiple satellite programmes.

  • Advised a satellite manufacturer on various contracts for the manufacture and sale of satellites and related services.
  • Drafted the satellite launch services agreements for the first UK launch operator.
  • Advised a satellite operator on various contracts, including launch services contracts and on-orbit operations.
  • Advised a launch site operator on contracting arrangements with launch service providers.
  • Advised a satellite operator on issues relating to a contract for the procurement of multiple satellites.

Toby advises on technology matters, including telephony procurement, fintech services, platform outsourcing renegotiations, decisioning service solutions, and licensing of AI systems for real-time customer communications.

Toby advises on telecommunications, including national infrastructure contracts, consumer terms of business, mobile operator due diligence, satellite telecommunications procurement and operation agreements, and spectrum-related disputes for national satellite operators.

  • Drafted terms of business for a consumer-facing telecoms company.
  • Led a due diligence project on a mobile operator in relation to its refinancing arrangements.
