Robert is an experienced lawyer who provides advice to individuals, families, trustees, executors and beneficiaries on issues relating to succession, trusts and UK personal tax. He has particular experience in the structuring and taxation of wills and trusts, and also advises on probate, powers of attorney and deeds of variation.

His clients are successful entrepreneurs, farmers and professionals and also families with inherited wealth.

Robert advises individuals, families, trustees, executors and beneficiaries on issues relating to succession planning, including probate, administration of estates, deeds of variation, trusts, inheritance tax, powers of attorney, and the structuring and taxation of wills.

Experience

  • Advised manufacturing entrepreneurs worth £60m on their succession plan to include restructuring their existing trusts and creating trusts in their wills to claim business property relief.
  • Acted for a high-net-worth family in connection with their succession plan and the creation of a new lifetime trust to hold the significant net sale proceeds of private limited company shares where business property relief had already been claimed.
  • Drafted the will of a Lloyd’s name and then acted in the administration of his complex estate.
  • Wound up a valuable will trust which held a farm worth £11m.
  • Advised a property entrepreneur worth £50m on the restructuring of his will and various lifetime trusts to make them more tax-efficient and to better protect complex family arrangements.
  • On behalf of a magic circle lawyer, successfully persuaded HMRC that a lifetime gift of part of a large manor house was not a gift with a reservation of benefit.
  • On behalf of a senior judge, drafted and advised on a deed of variation for asset protection purposes.
