Natasha is a Senior Associate in the Healthcare Litigation team, specialising in professional discipline and regulatory law with over a decade of experience gained in private practice and in-house at the General Medical Council (GMC).

She has represented clients such as medical defence organisations, doctors, nurses, and teachers in disciplinary proceedings and inquests, and acted for professional regulatory bodies in the healthcare and education sectors (including as part of a secondment).

Natasha has assisted corporate investment clients and start-up or expanding businesses with regulatory compliance and due diligence when expanding operations, refinancing or acquiring organisations in the education, health, and social care sectors (e.g. care homes, children’s care services, private clinics and hospitals, and independent nurseries, schools and colleges) to ensure regulatory standards are met (including in respect of Ofsted, the Care Quality Commission and their respective UK counterparts).

 

Expertise

Natasha advises on all aspects of healthcare regulatory law and compliance. She provides strategic advice to providers and investors on meeting regulatory requirements, managing risk, the regulatory implications of business structuring, mergers, and acquisitions, and navigating complex compliance issues across the UK health, social care, and education sectors.

Experience

  • Assisted on The Hooper Review, which examined the GMC’s processes for handling whistleblower cases.
  • Advised and assisted regulatory body clients in streamlining internal practices and drafting regulatory guidance.
  • Advised and assisted clients on the regulatory aspects of agreements and contracts, such as outsourcing school premises to external visitors.
  • Frequently authors thought leadership pieces and articles about regulatory compliance tailored for clients.
  • Advised a doctor client on the use of camera equipment for medical purposes and storage of clinical images

Natasha represents healthcare professionals and organisations in regulatory disputes, ARCP appeals, disciplinary proceedings, interim order challenges and substantive appeals.

Experience

  • Represented a GMC-registered doctor and successfully overturned an erasure from the Medical Register, involving proven allegations of dishonesty, in an appeal to the High Court.
  • Acted for a GMC-registered doctor and successfully appealed the imposition of an interim order of conditions by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal in the High Court.
  • Conducted an investigation on behalf of a construction regulatory body into historic allegations of fraud and corruption which involved gathering evidence and cross-continent working with Australia and Singapore-based parties.
  • Advised doctor clients in disputes with private medical insurers about the removal of recognition
  • Regularly advises doctors in practising privileges disputes

Natasha specialises in healthcare and social care regulatory law, advising on compliance and transactional due diligence, with experience across all UK jurisdictions. She acts for healthcare professionals, providers, and investors in disciplinary and fitness to practise proceedings, inquests, ARCP appeals and regulatory investigations.

Experience

  • Assisted a GMC-registered doctor in respect of their involvement in a high-profile case which led to an inquest, a change in NHS protocol and a CQC criminal investigation.
  • Undertook a client secondment at a healthcare regulatory body, providing triage decisions, advising on case direction in complex investigations, and advising on internal process and policy.
  • Advised investor clients in relation to the acquisition and refinancing of organisations operating in the healthcare and social care sectors. In addition to undertaking the underlying due diligence, advice provided to clients included the regulatory requirements of the Care Quality Commission, Healthcare Improvement Scotland, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority.
  • Advised technology, technology provider, and online / digital health companies, including well known and high profile clients, to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Represented a GMC-registered doctor and successfully overturned an erasure from the Medical Register, involving proven allegations of dishonesty, in an appeal to the High Court.
  • Represented a GMC-registered doctor and Responsible Officer in a complaint made to the Higher Level Responsible Officer which closed with no further action
  • Advised an investor client regarding the regulatory status of an online skincare company.
  • Advised a large private healthcare provider in relation to CQC ‘fit and proper persons’ and notification requirements when changing board directors.
