Leigh is an experienced regulatory solicitor, who has previously worked in private practice, and most recently in-house for a large healthcare defence organisation advising healthcare professionals in relation to fitness to practise cases, disciplinary proceedings and inquests. Before qualifying as a solicitor, Leigh qualified as a doctor, and worked in clinical practice for six years from 1994 to 2000.

The main focus of Leigh’s work is representing and supporting healthcare professionals involved in regulatory and disciplinary proceedings. She also represents their interests in Inquests. Throughout her career, she has successfully defended doctors and other healthcare professionals at fitness to practise proceedings.

  • Acted for a consultant physician facing allegations of sexual misconduct by the General Medical Council.
  • Acted for a paramedic facing allegations of sexual misconduct by the Health and Care Professions Council.

  • Acted for a GP facing NHS England proceedings in relation to concerns about clinical performance.
  • Acted for a GP facing NHS England proceedings in relation to probity concerns.

  • Acted for a consultant surgeon in relation to multiple and various concerns about clinical practice and probity.
  • Acted for a consultant physician in relation to allegations of dishonesty.
  • Acted for a consultant surgeon in an appeal against a disciplinary sanction.

Leigh advises and represents healthcare professionals in relation to coroners’ inquests.

Experience

  • Acted for prison doctors in a lengthy Article 2 jury inquest.
  • Advised a private healthcare provider on preparing an inquest statement, leading to their attendance at the inquest not being required.
  • Acted on behalf of a private online healthcare portal in relation to an inquest into the death of a mental health patient in 2024. The patient died after using the online portal to acquire a duplicate prescription of medication which she had already obtained from her NHS GP.

Leigh provides medicolegal advice to healthcare professionals, including responding to patient complaints and advising on issues of data protection in relation to patient records.

  • Advised a doctor on responding to a patient complaint about the contents of a medical report the doctor had provided.
  • Advised a GP on the disclosure of medical records to a deceased’s patient’s family.
  • Advised a GP on removal of a patient’s name from their list.
  • Advised a dentist on responding to a patient complaint regarding withdrawal of services.
