Keystone Law is one of the most respected law firms in the UK and its fast rise is reshaping the UK legal market. It is a multiple award-winning Top 100 law firm that is continuing to make waves. In 2017 it listed on the London Alternative Investment Market, and it continues to go from strength to strength with investors and clients alike. Our lawyers are drawn from the partnerships of the top 50 law firms and some high-quality boutiques.
The firm and this practice are ranked by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500, and in November 2020 we were named Law Firm of the Year at the prestigious The Lawyer Awards, the ultimate accolade in the legal industry. In January 2021, Keystone was also crowned Firm of the Year by RollOnFriday after achieving a 94% employee satisfaction score in the publication’s annual survey. As the UK’s happiest law firm, our lawyers are some of the most satisfied in the industry.
The Healthcare team requires a 3-6 PQE solicitor to assist Tracy Sell-Peter’s team in its burgeoning practice. The role presents significant opportunities for training, growth and development in a unique team at the forefront of healthcare litigation which has enjoyed significant success, as well as excellent recognition in the legal directories and the market generally.The team acts for a wide range of clients (insurers, insureds, regulators, Royal Colleges, defence organisations, and medical professionals) on the defence side, with insurers and insureds (medical professionals), being the largest contingent. We are an expanding team of 10 lawyers, which is part of a bigger Keystone Healthcare practice comprised of high-calibre, highly motivated and happy legal professionals. We very much focus on team-work, and on developing holistic lawyers who can turn their hand to all aspects of defendant healthcare litigation. We are unique in offering the ability to do this fascinating work in a very different, enabling environment, free from many of the restrictions of mainstream private practice.
The team also draws on opportunities to act for Keystone’s wider client base, while keeping its sights firmly set on servicing and continuing to win new business in this rapidly evolving, most interesting area of practice.
Working in a team environment, the role involves:
- Advising and representing healthcare professionals in healthcare regulatory proceedings, before the GMC, GDC, HCPC, NMC and other healthcare regulators. GMC experience is most valued;
- Advising in MHPS and private hospital disciplinary cases;
- Advising and representing healthcare professionals (and their medical indemnity insurers) – including doctors, surgeons, nurses, dentists and allied health professionals – in respect of clinical negligence claims;
- Providing medico-legal guidance and early pre-action assistance for members of medical indemnity insurance schemes, including in the Caribbean;
- Providing policy coverage advice to insurers in the healthcare sector.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on behalf of leading insurers, handling quality mid- to high-value work. For the right candidate, it offers the opportunity for development based on performance. The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Experience of healthcare litigation is essential (defendant clinical negligence claims and healthcare regulatory cases). This role is not suitable for you if you have only claimant experience, or if you have only defendant experience in claims work. Please do not apply if that is the case.
- Experience of insurance, insurance law and coverage would be beneficial, but is not essential
- Empathy and excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong technical ability to include a thorough grasp of principles, case law and topics
- Thoroughness and attention to detail
- Motivation and a strong work ethic
- Great team-working skills
- Confidence, resilience and tenacity
- An ability to work pro-actively and demonstrate initiative without constant direction, albeit under close supervision
- Strong organisational skills
